AI Search for Odoo

Overview

Odoo websites hold a shop, pages and a blog in one place. Visitors know what they want but not what it is called, so they give up on the search box. The AI Search Bar answers what they mean: type "something to carry my laptop in" and it finds the right product, even though no product is called that. Type "how long does delivery take" and it finds the page that says so.

The module puts the bar on your site without any code. It reads your catalogue through your own Odoo, with the prices and stock your shop shows, and we read your pages and blog posts ourselves. There is no API key to create and nothing to paste.

Requirements

• Odoo 16, 17, 18 or 19, on Odoo.sh or your own server. Odoo Online cannot install third-party modules.
• The Website app. If eCommerce is installed too, your products are searched with their price and availability.
• Your server has to be able to make outgoing HTTPS requests, because the module talks to us directly.

Installing the Module

1. Download the module for your Odoo version from the Odoo Apps Store, or copy the asyntai_search folder into your addons directory.
2. Restart Odoo, open Apps, and press Update Apps List.
3. Search for Asyntai and install Asyntai - AI Search.
4. Open Asyntai AI Search in the app switcher.
5. Press Connect Asyntai. A window opens where you sign in or create a free account.
6. Wait a few minutes while we read your site. The settings screen tells you when the bar is live.

Choosing Where the Bar Appears

There is one setting, Where the bar goes, with four answers.

Automatic

The default, and the right answer for nearly every site. If your header shows Odoo's own search box, the bar takes its place. If it does not, the bar is added to the header. Either way you end up with exactly one search bar, never two.

In place of the search box my site already shows

The bar finds the search box your site shows, hides it, and takes exactly the same place. If a visitor presses Enter without picking a result, your usual Odoo search page still opens, so nothing they already know stops working.

Add the bar to the site header

The bar is added to your header, in the place where Odoo puts its own search box. It appears in the mobile menu as well. Every Odoo header layout supports this, so no theme has to be edited.

Only where I add the block myself

Nothing is added to your header. In the website editor, drop an HTML block wherever the bar should go and give it this content: <div data-asyntai-search></div>. The bar renders into that block.

The Other Settings

• Search box to replace. Leave it empty and we find the box ourselves. Fill in a CSS selector only if we pick the wrong one, for example header form.o_searchbar_form.
• Placeholder text. Leave it empty and each visitor sees it in their own language.
• Accent colour. Leave it empty to use the colour set in your Asyntai dashboard.

Press Save at the top of the settings screen after you change any of these.

What the Bar Searches

Your pages and blog posts, as we read them from your site. If eCommerce is installed, your products as well: name, description, categories, price and availability come from your own Odoo through a read-only feed the module adds. The price is the one your website shows, with your pricelist and your tax setting applied, so a visitor never sees a number your shop would not charge.

Only published products are searched. A product you unpublish disappears from the results at the next sync.

Trying It Before Your Visitors Do

The settings screen has a Try your search bar button. It opens your real search bar, on your real content, in a new tab. Searches you run there do not count against your monthly allowance.

Plans and Limits

A site connected through this module runs the bar on any plan, including the free one. Your monthly reply allowance still applies, and searches and chat replies share it. The settings screen shows how much of the month is left.

When the allowance runs out, the bar removes itself and your site's own search box comes straight back. Your visitors keep being able to search. They are never left typing into a box that answers nothing.

The module checks this every fifteen minutes with Odoo's scheduler, so the bar comes back by itself when your allowance resets. You do not have to update or reinstall anything.

If Something Does Not Work

• No bar appears. Open the settings screen and read the line under the coloured dot. It says exactly why the bar is off.
• Two search boxes appear. Set Where the bar goes to Automatic, or to In place of the search box my site already shows.
• The bar replaced the wrong element. Fill in Search box to replace with a CSS selector for the right one.
• Could not reach Asyntai. Your server cannot make outgoing HTTPS requests. Ask your host to allow them.
• Products are missing. Check that they are published on your website and marked as can be sold. The feed sends what the shop itself shows.
• Odoo signed you out during the connect step. Log in again and press Connect once more.
• Your browser blocked the pop-up. The settings screen offers a link that opens the sign-in page in a new tab instead. The connection finishes the same way.

Disconnecting

Press Disconnect this site on the settings screen. The bar stops at once, the feed stops answering, and your usual Odoo search takes over. Uninstalling the module removes everything it added, including its own database table and settings.

Using the Chatbot as Well

This module adds the search bar only. To add the chat assistant too, install our separate Odoo chatbot module. The two work side by side on the same pages and share the same knowledge base.
