XenForo Integration

An AI assistant that answers questions on your XenForo forum

Go to Dashboard

Overview

The XenForo add-on puts an AI assistant on your forum. A chat button sits in the corner of every page, visitors ask a question in their own words, and the answer comes from your own content: your website, your uploaded documents and your help centre articles.

AI disclaimer: Answers on your forum are generated by AI. They may sometimes be inaccurate or incomplete and should be verified before you rely on them, especially for important decisions.

How It Works

The add-on puts one small script at the end of every public page, through a template modification on PAGE_CONTAINER. That script waits for the page to finish loading, then fetches the chat widget from Asyntai, so your forum draws first and page speed is unchanged. Your server never talks to Asyntai; only the visitor's browser does.

Requirements

  • An Asyntai account. The free plan is enough to start.
  • A XenForo forum, version 2.2 or newer, on PHP 7.2 or newer.
  • Administrator access to that forum.

Installation

Follow these steps to add Asyntai to your XenForo forum:

1

Upload the add-on

Unpack the download and copy everything inside the upload folder into the root of your forum, so that the files end up in this location:

src/addons/Asyntai/Chatbot/
2

Install the add-on

In the admin control panel, open Add-ons. Find Asyntai AI Chatbot in the list and select Install.

3

Paste your widget ID

Open Setup, then Options, then Asyntai AI Chatbot. Paste your widget ID and select Save. You find the ID in your Asyntai Dashboard under Setup & Integration. You can paste the whole snippet; the add-on keeps only the ID.

4

Open your forum

That's it — the chat button appears in the corner of every forum page. The chat is off while the widget ID field is empty, so you can switch it off at any time by clearing that field.

Tip: Point the AI at your forum rules, FAQs, and help articles from your Asyntai Dashboard so it answers questions specific to your community.

Settings

  • Widget ID: the chat is on while this holds a valid ID, and off when it is empty.
  • Show the chat to guests only: members who are signed in never see the chat. Useful when the assistant is there to help newcomers rather than regulars.
  • Widget script address: leave this as it is unless Asyntai support asks you to change it.

What the Assistant Can Do

  • Answer visitor questions instantly, 24/7, on every forum page
  • Respond in more than 80 languages, automatically detected from the question
  • Stay open while the visitor moves between categories and topics
  • Use your own uploaded docs, FAQs, and instructions to give accurate answers

Example Use Cases

  • Support forums: the assistant takes the questions that come round every week
  • New members: newcomers ask about rules and how to post without opening a topic
  • Product communities: instant answers from your documentation next to the discussion
  • Multilingual forums: everyone asks in their own language and gets answers in kind

Styles

The chat is placed by a template modification on PAGE_CONTAINER, which every style uses. So it works on the default style and on every style you install, with nothing to change.

Privacy

The add-on publishes exactly two values to the page: the widget ID and the script address. Nothing about your members or your posts is sent to Asyntai. Only the visitor's browser talks to Asyntai, and only when the visitor opens the chat.

Plans & Pricing

The XenForo integration is available on all Asyntai plans, including Free. Each plan includes a monthly message allowance shared across all your channels and integrations. View pricing.

Uninstalling

Clear the widget ID field to switch the chat off, or uninstall the add-on under Add-ons in the admin control panel. The chat disappears from your forum straight away.
