DokuWiki Integration

Put an AI assistant on your wiki, and let it answer from your wiki pages

Overview

The Asyntai plugin for DokuWiki does two things. It puts the chat assistant on every page of your wiki, and it sends your wiki pages to Asyntai so the assistant answers from them. Your readers ask a question in plain words and get the answer with a link to the page, instead of searching through hundreds of pages.

How It Works

Every time someone saves a page, the plugin sends the new text to your Asyntai knowledge base. A page that changes is sent again, and a page that is deleted is removed from Asyntai. One button sends the whole wiki at the start. This works for public wikis and for internal wikis behind a login alike, because the wiki pushes the pages out from inside.

Requirements

  • DokuWiki 2024-02-06 Kaos or later
  • Administration rights on the wiki
  • An Asyntai account. Creating one is free, and the Free plan is enough for the chat widget.
  • A paid Asyntai plan for the knowledge base sync, because it uses the Asyntai API

Installation

Follow these steps to add Asyntai to your wiki:

Install the Plugin

Open Admin, then Extension Manager, search for Asyntai and press Install. You can also unpack the plugin into lib/plugins/asyntai.

Connect Your Account

Open Admin, then Asyntai AI Chatbot, and press Get started. Sign in to Asyntai or create a free account in the window that opens. The chat assistant appears on every page at once.

Add Your API Key

On the same page, paste an Asyntai API key, tick Send pages when they are saved, and press Save. Skip this step if you only want the chat widget.

Send the Whole Wiki

Press Send all pages now. The pages go out one after the other while you watch the progress. From then on, every saved page is sent on its own.

Tip: Add your documents, questions and answers, and your instructions in the Asyntai Dashboard before you publish, so the assistant answers properly from the first visitor.

What the Sync Sends

  • The title and the text of each page, as plain text, with a link back to the wiki, so the assistant can point readers to the page
  • Hidden pages are never sent, so technical pages stay out of the knowledge base
  • The wiki and playground namespaces are left out from the start, and you can add more on the settings page
  • A page shorter than 120 characters is a stub, so it is skipped
  • A page is sent again only when it changed since the last time

Removing It

Uninstall the plugin from Admin, then Extension Manager. The chat assistant and the sync stop at once. Pages already sent stay in your Asyntai knowledge base until you delete them there.

Privacy

Your API key is stored in conf/local.php, and only administrators can open the settings page. Privacy policy.

Plans & Pricing

The plugin is free. The chat widget works on every Asyntai plan, including the Free plan. The knowledge base sync needs a paid plan, because it uses the Asyntai API. View pricing.
