Matomo Integration
Put the Asyntai chat widget on your site from Matomo Tag Manager, without touching your code
Overview
Matomo is web analytics that you host yourself, so your visitor data stays with you. Matomo Tag Manager is the part that puts third party scripts on your pages. The Asyntai plugin adds an Asyntai tag to it, so your chat assistant goes live from inside Matomo. You edit no templates and paste no code into your website.
How It Works
Your Tag Manager container is already on every page of your site. The Asyntai tag tells that container to load the chat widget with your widget ID. Nothing else changes, and the tag adds the widget only once per page, even if the container fires it again.
Requirements
- An Asyntai account. Creating one is free, and the Free plan is enough to test the widget.
- Matomo 5.0 or newer, hosted by you or on Matomo Cloud
- Matomo Tag Manager, with its container already installed on your website
- Permission to add a plugin, which usually means a superuser account in Matomo
Installation
Follow these steps to add Asyntai to your website through Matomo:
Install the Plugin
In Matomo, open Administration, then Plugins, then Marketplace. Search for Asyntai Chat and install it. Matomo activates it for you.
Copy Your Widget ID
Open the Install page in your Asyntai dashboard. Your widget ID is the value of data-asyntai-id in the snippet shown there.
data-asyntai-id="asyntai_xxxxxxxxxxxx"
Create the Tag
Go to Tag Manager, choose your container, then Tags, then Create new tag. Pick Asyntai Chat from the list and paste your widget ID.
Give It the Pageview Trigger
Choose the Pageview trigger, so the widget appears on every page. Then save the tag.
Publish
Press Publish in Tag Manager. Open your website and the chat bubble is there.
Tip: Add your documents, questions and answers, and your instructions in the Asyntai Dashboard before you publish, so the assistant answers properly from the first visitor.
What the Tag Does
- It loads the Asyntai chat widget with the widget ID you entered
- It waits until the page itself has finished loading, so your pages stay fast
- It adds the widget once per page, even if the container fires the tag again
- It does nothing at all when the widget ID is empty
Removing It
Delete the Asyntai tag in Tag Manager and publish the container again. The widget disappears from your site at once. You can also uninstall the plugin in Matomo, which removes the tag type as well.
Privacy
The plugin reads no Matomo data. It adds no report, no database table and no tracking of its own. Asyntai receives data only when a visitor opens the chat and writes a message, exactly as it would with a snippet pasted by hand. Privacy policy.
Plans & Pricing
The plugin is free, and the widget works on every Asyntai plan, including the Free plan. Each plan includes a monthly number of messages, shared across your website widget and all your integrations. Paid plans raise that number. View pricing.
