How to Add Asyntai AI Chatbot to Big Cartel

Step 1: Get Your Embed Code

First, go to your Asyntai Dashboard and scroll down to the "Embed Code" section. Copy your unique embed code which will look like this:

Note: The code above is just an example. You must copy your own unique embed code from your Dashboard as it contains your personal widget ID.

Step 2: Open the Shop Designer

Big Cartel lets you add custom code through the Shop Designer's advanced code editor:

Log in to your Big Cartel admin at app.bigcartel.com
In the left-hand menu, click Design
Click the Customize design button to open the Shop Designer
Open the Advanced section to reveal the theme code editor

Note: The Advanced code editor is intended for people who are comfortable with HTML. Big Cartel themes use the Liquid templating language, but you can paste a plain script tag without any Liquid knowledge.

Step 3: Add the Code Before the Closing Body Tag (Recommended)

The cleanest way to add the chatbot to every page is the Integration Code section, which places your script just before the closing body tag automatically:

In the Shop Designer's Advanced area, find the Integration Code section
Click the Body field (this inserts code right before the closing </body> tag)
Paste your Asyntai embed code into the field
Click Done to save your edits
Click Publish to make the change live on your shop

Tip: The Integration Code section is the best place for tracking scripts and chat widgets because it stays in place even if you switch themes, and it loads on every page of your shop automatically.

Alternative Method: Edit the Layout Template

If your theme version does not show an Integration Code section, you can paste the code directly into the Layout template. The Layout is the master template that every store page lives inside, so code added here appears on all pages:

In the Shop Designer, open the Advanced section and select the Layout page from the list of theme templates
Scroll to the bottom of the Layout code and find the closing </body> tag
Paste your Asyntai embed code on a new line just before the </body> tag
Click Done to save, then Publish to apply the change

Important: Advanced template code lives inside the current theme. If you switch to a different theme later, you will need to re-add the code, so the Integration Code section is preferred whenever it is available.

Note: Big Cartel does not host separate JavaScript files, but that is not a problem here — the Asyntai widget loads from asyntai.com, so a single script tag is all you need. The checkout page is not editable, and the widget is not required there.

Step 4: Verify Installation

After publishing your changes, open your Big Cartel shop in a new browser tab or incognito window. You should see the chat widget button in the bottom right corner. Click it to ensure it opens and functions correctly.

Not seeing the widget? Make sure you clicked both Done and Publish in the Shop Designer. Clear your browser cache or view in incognito mode, since Big Cartel may cache pages, so changes might take a few minutes to appear. Check the browser console (F12) for any JavaScript errors.
