Overview
Proactive Messages let your chatbot start the conversation at the right moment. When a visitor clicks a button, opens a certain page, stays on a page for a while, or when your website reports an event such as a product added to the cart, the chatbot sends a message that helps with exactly that situation.
How It Works
- Something happens - a click, a page, time on the page, or an event from your website
- The chatbot writes first - your fixed text, or a message the AI writes from your instruction
- The visitor sees it - in a bubble above the chat button, or the chat opens with the message
- The conversation continues - when the visitor answers, the chatbot knows what it wrote first

When The Chatbot Writes
Each rule has one trigger:
- Event from your website code - your website sends an event name, for example added_to_cart or code_copied. This works for anything your website knows about.
- Click on an element - the visitor clicks an element you choose with a CSS selector, for example #copy-code or .checkout-button.
- Page address contains - the visitor opens a page whose address contains a text, for example /checkout or /pricing.
- Time on page - the visitor has been on a page for a number of seconds.
What The Chatbot Writes
- Fixed text - you write the message, and the visitor sees exactly that text. It shows at once.
- AI writes it - you write a short instruction, for example: Offer help to choose the right size, and name the product the visitor added to the cart. The AI writes the message from your instruction, your knowledge base and your AI Instructions, in the visitor's language.
With User Context, the AI can also use what your website knows about the visitor, such as their name or their order.
A fixed text can have translations. Add the text in more languages, and each visitor sees it in their browser language. Visitors whose language has no translation see the main text.
How It Shows
- Bubble above the chat button - the message shows in a bubble while the chat is closed. The visitor clicks it to open the chat.
- Open the chat - the chat opens with the message in it.
When the chat is already open, the message simply appears in the chat. On phones, the message always shows in a bubble, so the chat never covers the screen.
How Often
- Once per visit - at most once until the visitor closes the browser tab.
- Once per visitor - at most once in this browser.
- Every time - each time the trigger happens. The same rule never shows twice within 30 seconds.
Sending An Event From Your Website
For a rule with the trigger Event, add these lines where the event happens in your website's code. They work before and after the chat widget has loaded:
window.Asyntai = window.Asyntai || {};
window.Asyntai.events = window.Asyntai.events || [];
window.Asyntai.events.push({ name: 'added_to_cart', data: { product: 'Running shoes' } });
After the widget has loaded, you can also call:
window.Asyntai.trigger('added_to_cart', { product: 'Running shoes' });
The data is optional. With an AI rule, the AI can use it in its message, for example to name the product the visitor added.
Examples
- Installation help - trigger: a click on your Copy code button. AI instruction: Explain in a few steps how to install the code on the visitor's website platform.
- Failed payment - trigger: the event payment_failed. Fixed text: Your payment did not go through. You can try again or choose a different payment method.
- Checkout questions - trigger: the page address contains /checkout. Fixed text: Questions about shipping or returns? Ask me here.
- Pricing page - trigger: the page address contains /pricing. AI instruction: Offer help to choose the right plan.
- Visitors who look around - trigger: 45 seconds on a page. Fixed text: Can I help you find something?
Setting It Up
- Open the Proactive Messages page from your dashboard
- Click Add rule, and choose when the chatbot writes
- Choose a fixed text or an AI instruction, and how the message shows
- Choose how often it may show, and click Save rule
Rules work on your website at once. There is nothing to install for clicks, pages and time on the page. For events, add the lines above to your website.
Good To Know
- Each AI message counts as one AI reply - a fixed text does not count
- Your chat logs stay clear - a proactive message appears in your chat logs when the visitor answers it
- See who saw each message - the Proactive Messages page shows how often each rule was shown, opened and answered, and lists every visitor who saw a message
- Each website has its own rules - up to 50 rules per website
- Switch a rule off at any time - it stops showing on the next page the visitor opens
Note: Proactive Messages is available on the Pro and Enterprise plans.
