GitHub Integration

Answer questions in Issues and Discussions from your documentation

Overview

The Asyntai GitHub App answers the questions people ask in your repositories. When someone opens a Discussion in a Q&A category, or an Issue with your question label, Asyntai reads your documentation and posts the answer as a comment. Your maintainers keep their time for bug reports and code.

It is built for projects that keep their docs in Asyntai: a documentation site, a README, a help centre or uploaded files. The answers come from that content, the same knowledge base your website chat uses.

How It Works

The app answers in three places:

  • Discussions: every new discussion in a category that accepts answers, such as Q&A.
  • Issues: every new issue that carries the label you choose. The default label is question. Bug reports and feature requests stay with your team.
  • Follow-ups: anyone can mention @asyntai-ai-agent in a comment to ask more. The app remembers the thread, so follow-up questions are understood in context.

Every answer is grounded in your documentation. A question outside the docs stays open for a maintainer, so every comment the app writes is one you can trust.

Requirements

  • An Asyntai account with your documentation in the knowledge base. The free plan is enough to start.
  • A GitHub repository, on a personal account or in an organization, where you can install apps.
  • For Discussions, a category that accepts answers. GitHub calls this a Q&A category.

Installation

Follow these steps to add Asyntai to your repositories:

Install the app on GitHub

Open the Asyntai app on the GitHub Marketplace and press Install. Choose the account and the repositories where it may answer. You can change the repositories later in your GitHub settings.

Connect your Asyntai account

GitHub sends you to Asyntai when the installation finishes. Sign in, or create a free account, and choose the website whose knowledge base the app answers from. This only has to be done once.

Choose where it answers

On the GitHub page in your Asyntai dashboard, switch Discussions and Issues on or off, and set the label that marks an issue as a question. The settings apply to every repository in the installation.

Ask a question

Open a discussion in your Q&A category, or an issue with the question label. The answer appears as a comment within a minute. Mention the app in a reply to ask a follow-up.

Tip: Add your documentation site, README and changelog to the knowledge base in your Asyntai Dashboard. The more of your docs the app has, the more questions it answers.

What the App Can Do

  • Answer setup, configuration and usage questions from your documentation, day and night
  • Write GitHub Markdown, with code blocks for commands and configuration
  • Link to the documentation page the answer comes from
  • Keep the context of each thread for follow-up questions
  • Answer in the language the question was asked in
  • Leave bug reports, feature requests and pull requests to your team

Permissions

The app asks for read and write access to Issues and Discussions, so it can read the question and post the answer, and read access to repository metadata.

Privacy

Asyntai receives the text of the question, the repository name and the GitHub username of the person asking. Each answered thread is stored as a conversation in your Asyntai dashboard, like a chat on your website.

Plans & Pricing

The GitHub integration is available on all Asyntai plans, including Free. Each answer counts as one message in your monthly allowance, shared across all your channels and integrations. View pricing.

Uninstalling

Open your GitHub settings, then Applications, then Installed GitHub Apps, and uninstall Asyntai. The app stops answering at once. You can also press Disconnect on the GitHub page in your Asyntai dashboard.
