Roam Research Integration
Turn your Roam pages into the knowledge of your website chatbot
Overview
Roam Research is a note app that keeps your writing as a graph of linked pages. The Asyntai extension connects your graph to your website chatbot. Choose the pages, and every one of them becomes an answer the assistant can give your visitors.
The extension also adds an Asyntai panel to Roam. Ask your chatbot a question there, read the latest website chats and leads, and save any chat as a page.
What It Does
- Sends pages to the knowledge base. Every page whose title starts with a prefix you choose goes to Asyntai. Each edit goes up again a few seconds after you stop typing, and a renamed or deleted page leaves the knowledge base.
- Keeps block references whole. A block reference is sent as the text it points to, so a fact you keep in one place reaches every page that references it. A reference into a page you leave out, or into a daily note while daily notes are off, sends nothing.
- Answers questions inside Roam. The panel gives you the same answer the chatbot gives your visitors. Press Insert into page to add it to your graph.
- Shows website chats and leads. The panel lists the latest conversations and every visitor who left an email address or phone number. Save as page keeps a conversation under
Asyntai chats/.
Requirements
- Roam Research, in the browser or the desktop app
- An Asyntai account on the Starter plan or higher, because the extension uses the Asyntai API
Installation
Follow these steps to connect Roam to Asyntai:
Get Your API Key
Sign in to Asyntai, open Settings, then API, and copy your API key.
Install the Extension
In Roam, open Settings from the … menu in the top right corner, go to the Roam Depot tab, and press Browse. Search for Asyntai AI Chatbot and press Install.
Paste the API Key
Open Settings, then the Asyntai AI Chatbot tab, and paste your key into Asyntai API key. Then run Asyntai: check API key from the command palette to see the account the key belongs to.
Choose What To Send
In Pages to send, write the title prefixes, comma separated. These are the pages your Asyntai chatbot answers from, on your website and in the Roam panel. For example Docs sends the page Docs and every page under it, such as Docs/Refund policy.
Type / on its own to send every page. Put prefixes such as Docs/Drafts in Pages to leave out.
Send Your Pages
Open the command palette with Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac), search for Asyntai, and run Asyntai: send all pages. Roam shows how many pages went up.
After that, every edit goes up on its own a few seconds after you stop typing.
Where To Find It
- Top bar: the chat icon opens and closes the panel.
- Command palette: every command starts with Asyntai:.
- Slash command: type a question in a block, then
/Asyntai ask. The panel opens with your question ready, and Insert into page puts the answer under that block.
