GNOME Shell Extension
New chats and leads from your website, and your own AI chatbot, in the top bar of your Linux desktop
Overview
GNOME is the desktop of Ubuntu, Fedora and many other Linux systems. The Asyntai AI Chatbot extension puts a chat icon in the GNOME top bar. The icon shows how many new chats your website chatbot had since you last looked. Click it to see the newest chats and leads, open any of them in your Asyntai inbox, or type a question and read the answer your chatbot gives your visitors.
What It Does
- New chat count: a number next to the icon tells you how many chats are new. It resets when you open the menu.
- Notifications: a desktop notification shows the first message of each new chat.
- Recent chats: the five newest chats with their first message and time. Click one to open it in your inbox.
- Leads: the five newest visitors who left an email address or a phone number. Click one to read their chat.
- Ask your chatbot: type a question in the box at the top of the menu and press Enter. Ask a follow-up and the chatbot keeps the conversation. Copy answer puts the answer on your clipboard.
Requirements
- GNOME Shell 45 or later, for example Ubuntu 24.04 or Fedora 39 and later
- An Asyntai account on the Starter plan or higher, because the extension uses the Asyntai API
Installation
Follow these steps to add Asyntai to your GNOME top bar:
Install the Extension
Open the Extension Manager app, search for Asyntai AI Chatbot and press Install. You can also open extensions.gnome.org in your browser, search for Asyntai and switch the extension on.
Get Your API Key
Sign in to Asyntai, open Settings, then API, and copy your API key.
Paste the Key
Click the chat icon in the top bar and choose Settings. Paste the key into the API key box and press Check. The window says The key works.
Open the Menu
Click the chat icon. Your newest chats and leads appear, and the question box is ready for typing.
Tip: Ask the questions your visitors ask, for example Do you ship to Austria?, and you see the same answer they get. Questions you ask from the extension do not appear in the extension's list of chats.
Settings
- Show the number of new chats: turn the count next to the icon on or off.
- Notify me about new chats: turn the desktop notifications on or off.
- Check for new chats every: how often the extension checks, from 1 to 60 minutes. The default is 5 minutes.
Removing It
Open the Extension Manager app, find Asyntai AI Chatbot and press Remove. To remove your API key from the computer too, clear the API key box in the extension settings first.
Plans & Pricing
The extension is free. It uses the Asyntai API, which needs the Starter plan or higher. View pricing.
