Setup

Adding it to a Knack app

Knack has a custom JavaScript field for the whole app. It takes plain JavaScript, so you paste a short loader instead of a script tag.

Get your widget ID

Create an Asyntai account, add your app address and copy your widget ID from the snippet.

Open API and Code

In the Knack Builder, go to Settings and open API & Code, then the JavaScript tab.

Paste the loader

Paste the loader shown here and replace YOUR_ID with your widget ID. In Next-Gen apps, turn on the custom JavaScript toggle.

Save and check

Save the code, then open your live app to see the chat.

The loader sets your widget ID in window.ASYNTAI_WIDGET_ID and adds the Asyntai script to the page. The widget reads the ID from there.

Guide

An AI assistant for Knack apps and portals

Why Knack apps add an assistant

Knack is a no-code platform for building online databases, portals and business apps. Nonprofits and teams use it for volunteer portals, inventories and client records.

The app handles the data, but users still need to know how things work. An assistant answers those questions right inside the app.

Answering questions from your handbook

Rules, procedures and FAQs often live in a handbook that few people read in full. Users ask the same things again and again.

Upload the handbook, and the assistant answers from it in plain words, at any hour.

Helping coordinators and staff

Coordinators spend hours each week on emails about sign-ups, rules and schedules. That time could go to the mission.

The assistant handles routine questions and saves special requests, such as group visits, with the details staff need.

Setup with the JavaScript field

Knack has a custom JavaScript field under Settings, API & Code. Because it takes plain JavaScript, you paste a short loader instead of a script tag.

The loader sets your widget ID and adds the Asyntai script, so the chat appears across the whole app.

Learning from user questions

Every conversation is saved. Frequent questions show which steps in your app are unclear.

Use them to update your guides, rename buttons or add help text to forms.
