An AI assistant for BookStack wikis
Why BookStack wikis add an assistant
BookStack is a free, self-hosted platform that organises documentation into shelves, books, chapters and pages. Many organisations use it for public guides and member handbooks.
As a wiki grows, readers struggle to know where an answer lives. An assistant lets them ask in plain words and replies from the right page.
From many chapters to one answer
A single question can touch several books: training rules in one, booking in another, safety in a third.
The assistant pulls the relevant parts together in a short reply and links to each page for anyone who wants the details.
Keeping safety information clear
For workshops, labs and facilities, the wiki often holds safety rules. Those must be repeated accurately.
You can tell the assistant to quote rules exactly and to suggest asking a host when a situation is unclear.
Setup through head content
BookStack has a Custom HTML Head Content field under Settings, Customization. The snippet goes in once and loads on reading pages across the wiki.
It works the same way on self-hosted instances, as long as the wiki can load the script from the internet.
Growing the wiki with real questions
Every chat is saved. Questions without a good answer show which pages are missing or unclear.
Editors can use that list to plan new pages, so the wiki becomes more complete over time.
