Adding it to an mdBook site

mdBook reads an optional theme folder. A head.hbs file in that folder is appended to the head of the book pages.

Copy your snippet

Open a free Asyntai account, type the address of your published book and copy the snippet.

Create head.hbs

Next to the src folder, make a folder named theme with a file named head.hbs.

Paste the snippet

Put the snippet in head.hbs. You do not need other theme files.

Rebuild the book

Run mdbook build and publish the output folder as usual.

If your theme folder already has a head.hbs, add the snippet at the end of that file.

Which file holds the snippet?

theme/head.hbs, in the folder that also holds src. mdBook appends that file to the page head.

Do I have to copy the whole theme?

No. mdBook uses its built-in files for everything you do not override. One head.hbs file is enough.

Does every chapter get the chat?

Yes. The theme files apply to the whole book, so each chapter page loads the chat.

Does it replace mdBook search?

No. The built-in search stays as it is. Readers can search for a word or ask the chat a full question.

Can it quote code from my chapters?

Yes. It can show short code from your pages and link the chapter that holds the full example.
