Overview

Speech to Text adds a microphone button to your chat widget, allowing visitors to speak their questions instead of typing. The AI transcribes the spoken audio into text using advanced speech recognition, then processes it like any other message.

This feature is especially useful for mobile visitors, users with accessibility needs, or anyone who prefers talking over typing.

How It Works

  1. Visitor taps the microphone - A microphone icon appears next to the message input
  2. Visitor speaks - They say their question while a voice indicator is shown
  3. AI transcribes the audio - Speech is converted to text using advanced recognition
  4. Message is sent - The transcribed text appears in the input field (or is auto-submitted)

Benefits

When Speech to Text is enabled, your chat widget gains these capabilities:

Mobile-Friendly Speaking is faster and easier than typing on mobile devices
Accessibility Users with mobility or dexterity challenges can use voice instead
Multi-Language Supports multiple languages automatically based on the speaker
Faster Input Speaking is often 3x faster than typing for longer messages

Auto-Submit

You can optionally enable Auto-Submit, which automatically sends the message as soon as the voice transcription is complete. This creates a seamless, hands-free experience for the visitor.

When auto-submit is disabled, the transcribed text appears in the input field so the visitor can review or edit it before sending.

Auto-Submit OFF
  • Visitor can review & edit text
  • Corrects any transcription errors
  • Good for precision-sensitive topics
Auto-Submit ON
  • Instant, hands-free experience
  • Fastest possible interaction
  • Great for simple questions

3
Configure Auto-Submit (optional) Toggle auto-submit on if you want messages sent automatically after transcription

Tip: Test the voice input yourself by opening your chat widget and tapping the microphone icon. This helps you understand the experience your visitors will have.
