Let the AI naturally collect contact information from visitors during conversation

Overview

Smart Lead Capture tells the AI to naturally ask visitors for their contact information during the conversation. Instead of relying on visible input fields, the AI finds a natural moment in the chat to request an email address or phone number.

Any contact info visitors share in their messages is automatically detected and saved to your Leads page — no special formatting or tags needed.

How It Works

  1. Enable Smart Lead Capture - Turn it on in your widget customization settings
  2. Choose what to ask for - Select email, phone, both, or any contact info
  3. AI asks naturally - After helping the visitor, the AI politely asks for their contact details
  4. Lead is saved automatically - Any email or phone in chat messages is detected and stored
  5. View in Leads page - Access all leads in one place with export options

Ask For Options

When Smart Lead Capture is enabled, you can choose what the AI should ask for:

Any contact info Default — the visitor can share their email or phone number, whichever they prefer
Email address The AI will specifically ask for the visitor's email
Phone number The AI will specifically ask for the visitor's phone number
Email and phone number The AI will ask for both email and phone number

Enable Smart Lead Capture

Set up Smart Lead Capture in your widget customization settings:

Go to Customize Open your website's widget customization page

Find Smart Lead Capture Look for the "Smart Lead Capture" toggle card

Turn it on Enable the toggle and choose what contact info to ask for

Smart Lead Capture vs Input Fields

You can collect leads in two ways — and they work great together:

Input Fields
Visible email/phone field above chat
Asks before conversation starts
Form-like, can be dismissed
Best for upfront collection
Smart Lead Capture
AI asks conversationally during chat
Asks after helping the visitor
Natural, feels like a real conversation
Best for cleaner UI, less friction

Tip: Use both methods together for maximum lead collection. The input fields catch visitors upfront, while Smart Lead Capture catches those who dismissed the fields but still engage with the AI.

Note: This setting is independent of the Collect Emails and Collect Phone input fields. You can use Smart Lead Capture on its own without enabling the visible input fields.
